Hey all!

I have been given good help from the list in the past, I hope this will be the case with this problem as well.

The problem:
While in the middle of rpm scale I give throttle. The result is very little acceleration (the bike doesn't follow, somehow) and deep noise from the engine, it doesn't seem to me it comes from somewhere around the valves.
I don't know why but I have a feeling there is too little of either fuel or air when this happens.
Lack of accelaration comes always along with the noise, but only when riding on middle to high rpm!

Frequency:
Periodical. It started 4 weeks ago, then it went of but it has been persistent more and more during the last few days.

My guess:
Small particles in the carburator. But I would really like to check out other possible causes before I disassemble the carb.

The bike:
- Savage 96, 35.000 Km
- Fuel: 95 Unleaded
- I ride the bike daily.
- The compression should be fine, I tried to push the bike while in 1st gear and that was nearly impossible.
- Adjusted valves to a gap of 0.10 mm (I think I did it right) a couple of days ago (but the problem was there before the adjustment)
- Spark plug: new
- The color of (the old) spark plug is fine (light brown), no signs of oil on the plug.
- Air filter: Looks dirty with some dust and particles on it but still OK I think, I have blown air through it lately. It was new 8.000 km ago.
- Oil and oil filter: Just changed, 500 km. ago.

Would you please post your guess?
Thanks in advance!
